One of the hardest things about finding a new job is to pen a new resume. What to put in, what to leave out, as you condense your job experience down to a single page of material. It can be a most difficult dilemma unless you are extremely organized. But with all of life’s little complications, this can become a most tiresome burden, possibly to the point of being overwhelming. Fear not my friend, with a little help, you will not only complete this process but will do so in a knock ‘em dead manner.
First, let’s get organized. Make sure that you have all of your correct contact information including street address, home and cell phone numbers and professional email address. If you don’t have one strictly for business purposes, get one immediately! There are free and available from a number of providers so there is no excuse not to have one of these items. Remember, if a human resources person can’t contact you, there is no way to get that personal interview. Place it all in the header section under your name.
Now, prepare a job objective or better yet, a profile summary of your past accomplishments and achievements. Putting your best stuff first allows the reader to see what kind of candidate that you are and won’t miss something noteworthy buried halfway down the page. This can be in paragraph form located right after the header section. The evaluator only looks at your resume for 20 to 30 seconds when making a decision, so make your time count.
Also, include only your relevant work experience in the resume for this particular job. Anything else makes it look wordy as if you are trying to “snow” the company with extraneous material. This will also help you keep it to one page (which is recommended by most human resource professionals).
Finish with something unique about yourself such as hobbies or part time interests. This will indicate that you are a well-rounded individual and just might be as way into the company as many people share the same interests. Be sure to run spell check and have an associate proof read for errors before sending it off for that new job. Good luck.
If you want a better job, start with a attention grabbing resume. Point and click your way in only 30 min. You owe it to yourself and your family. http://buildyourownresume.netne.net/
